BB - welcome to the forum. You're right, these are quite a helpful bunch of guys and gals. Information on these postings are worth their weight in gold when a problem occurs. Regarding your problem, my first impression would be fuel starvation. The air breather/hole in the gas tank cap is tiny. Its function depends upon it being completely free and clear of any debris. Someone here on this site probably can tell you in more detail than I about what exactly the parts are called in the cap, but I would just take off the large rubber seal being sure to note which side is up and which is down remove the screws on the underside, take eveything you can apart and blow everything out, put it back together and try it out to see if this was indeed the problem. If so great, if not go to the next step which would be to look at the gas tank fuel valve (resv/on/prim). The carb would be the last resort, but i'm quite sure you won't have to go that far. The next step is far messier but not an unreasonable problem to attack, but lets see if the first fix works before we get into the next. I hardly ever fix what ain't broke
